![]() He also mentioned that they would set up the q150 next to the ls50 to make sure that they both sounded the same. The interviewer asks something like "so does that mean that you get 90% of the performance of the ls50 for only 30% of the price?" and the kef guy kinda gets uncomfortable, probably because he knows it's true. He mentions that they basically took everything that they learned from the ls50 (a pretty "audiophile grade" speaker) and incorporated it into the q150. There is an interview with one of the designers for kef where he talks about the q150 pretty extensively. (Okay that sounded much better while I was thinking it but it sounds weird typed out. If there is a singer, kef speakers want you to have your ear in the mouth of the singer. Elac, on the other hand, is trying to reproduce sound as accurately as possible. People probably buy elacs because they are a good bang for your buck and they produce sounds that sound good to us. I think people that buy elacs buy them for very different reasons than why they buy kefs. That being said, kef is usually going for the "audiophile" market with their products, while elac is going for the "good music" listeners. Their speakers are all more on the "audiophile" spectrum than the "I like music and would like it to sound nice" spectrum. Kef, on the other hand, doesn't really do "cheap". For example, they have towers that are absolutely amazing, have a flat response, and are pretty dang cheap. But they have key elements that make them different.Įlac has a lot of "bang for your buck" speakers. I think that the kefs will be a lot better in the high ends, but lacking in the low ends, comparatively to the elacs. However, after many reviews watched of them, I can tell you what I think will happen. My kefs arrive Wednesday (I couldn't pick them up from best buy, and this is the soonest that Crutchfield can send them out) so I can't tell you my thoughts yet. I talk quite a bit about the elacs in there. If you saw the pinned post, that is me that made it. NO AFFILIATE LINKS, but if you find a great deal on something and want to share use.
